Update 16: Constellation Crazy

Wed Feb 11, 2009, 8:17 PM
I was painting some more constellations tonight and suddenly I understood why I like them so much.

It's because they bring together and harmonize so many ideas that are opposites.

People keep telling me how atomic some of them look, and yet they represent something that is lightyears big. So there is a blending of the very big and the very small.

Then there is the idea of the connections to the past with all of the mythology and ancient history. There are connections to the future with NASA and the Aries program to go explore Mars.

There is something of humanity in all art, and yet there is something immortal, dare I say alien about what is out in space.

All this makes for some pretty good art I hope!

Your constellations work is vivid, imaginative, each piece is differently interesting and all share your style.

Yes they would! I just finished the Zodiacal group of constellations and I think now I'm moving along to the Ursa Major Group. Stars make such neat abstractions.

 Sean, I hope you and your Mom are doing well.. I know Galveston is getting a pounding, and whenever a hurricane comes in, there's tornados all around.

Stay safe!

Well I'm safe. But 5 days running without electricity so far. I'm thinking of painting some bison or a cave-bear or something on my apartment walls. I'm doing this from work...shh don't tell anyone (actually the internet is the only thing that is up and running here...really CAN'T do anything else.) In any case, I wanted you and anyone else out there to know I'm alright. Take care. --Shawn

I'm so glad you're safe! :glomp: I'll have to call Kathy and let her know. She's been worried sick about you and your mom.

I'm so grateful to be living in the land of shaky ground instead of back in Texas. I really didn't like the weather when I was there. It wasn't just the tornadoes and hurricanes. It was stuff like having to don a parka on December 24th because it was so cold and windy, and wear shorts, tanktops and flipflops on Christmas Day because it was so dang hot and humid.

I like a little bit more predictability where my weather is concerned! :)

I hope your electricity gets turned back on soon!
